Job-London-20
Exceptional Structural Engineers of 3.5-5 years’ experience, you better hope that you’re paying attention today or your friend might have a way better job than you soon.

One thing which is very apparent amongst the Structural Engineering community, particularly amongst younger engineers, is the fact that people don’t earn enough money.

I don’t disagree with that statement but I’m also conscious of the fact that to earn good money, you need to be good at what you do and be prepared to do things which others don’t/won’t, irrelevant of what industry you’re in - otherwise you hit a ceiling & are confined to the norm.

You can’t take the same track as everyone else & expect to break this, but for those who do excel and hear about the right opportunities at the right times in their career, these people stand a chance of getting from A to B, B to C & C to D much, much quicker (I’ve seen it, I’ve helped people do it)….

And maybe even reaching level E & trust me, there’s money in engineering.

So today, having been retained by a long-term client of mine who are in a very exciting stage & currently planning for the future, including succession planning for 10 years time… I come to you, Structural Engineers of 3.5-5 years’ experience in London.

But coming back to what I said earlier - you’re going to have to be good & you’re going to need to have a real vision for your future.

Your ambitions aren’t limited to becoming a Senior Engineer in a year or two & then maybe an Associate in 5.

No, your ambitions are bigger than that & go way beyond what are often meaningless titles to a degree.

You want to be seen. You want to be heard. And you want to become a key & integral part of a business.

You have no interest in being one of many or being easily interchangeable - you want to make a difference & be irreplaceable.

A few months ago, this client hired possibly one of the best Structural Engineers with 4-5 years experience that I’ve ever dealt with… & I’ve dealt with many outstanding people but she was awesome.

With the current structure being bottom heavy (aka a small leadership team of 3), my clients thought process became…

“If I can get another person like X with ideas & drive, in a couple of years time I’ll have been able to develop two absolute machines & in 5 years time, they’ll be juggernaughts. In 10 years time, I’ll know the business is in safe hands”

I guess the message is… Don’t expect to do a job many can do & expect to be reap the benefits.

Carve your own value & make yourself different but to do that, you need the right opportunity/opportunities.

So, if you’re a genuinely ambitious & dedicated (to the industry, not long hours - this isn’t a sweat shop!) Structural Engineer of 3.5-5 years’ experience who believes they’re destined to go places & you’re willing to hear about an opportunity allowing you to do just that and more…
