Structural Project Engineer

Portland, the pacific North West – a city known for its doughnuts, but not necessarily its bustling Structural Engineering market, which is fairly restricted in terms of employers & therefore, fairly restricted in terms of real, tangible opportunities for personal development.

But here’s the thing, Portland & surrounding geographic has a lot of potential, that’s why a client of mine from California, are moving into town & with that comes a serious opportunity for an ambitious Structural Engineer who really wants to progress & be part of something – an opportunity which will be few and far between in this city.

My client founded their first office in Los Angeles around 5 years ago and they’ve done a fantastic job of growing this office sustainably, without any debts (impressive, huh?), to an office of 15-staff & now they’re moving into Portland with the view of mirroring this growth pattern, having decided this is a market with potential, as well as the scope to cover a wider geographical area up the West Coast.

Currently, & during the past couple of years actually, these guys are starting to win some serious projects with serious architects, usually on a repeat-business basis – evidence that the work they do is exceptionally good, to the point they’re able to punch above their weight class a little. Exciting to be a part of, eh?

In terms of who we’d be interested in meeting up in Portland – we’d really like to meet people of ‘all-round’ skillsets, those with strong technical backgrounds & curious minds, but also those with personalities and the abilities to build relationships.

You’d be working hand-in-hand with one of the founding Principals & working with them to; 1) help service the workload from Los Angeles & 2) help strike up & maintain relationships with architects & clients in/around Portland, where I can almost guarantee you’ll have little opportunity to take part in the latter where you are currently? & Why wouldn’t you if your character & technical background would allow you too?

Oh, because that’s all taken care of by Project Managers & higher ups where you are – understandable, but why would you stay somewhere that’s holding you back from fulfilling your potential when there’s a new & exciting firm in town who you can join on an exciting (& beneficial, for you) journey?

This firm are really looking for individuals that they can grow & mould for the future which is why the type of person we’d be interested in meeting is relatively broad, so if you’re a Structural Engineer of 3-6 years’ experience looking to work within a modern, forward-thinking, growing design practice which can offer you opportunities for learning & development which simply won’t be as easily (or quickly) accessible where you are, at least not to the same degree – why not get in touch?
