Imagine if, as a Structural Engineer, you had a job which allowed you to satisfy your interests in engineering & music/events simultaneously – wouldn’t that make your Monday to Friday rock that little bit more & take away the Monday morning blues?

I don’t mean to put you into a state of trance but I’ve been retained by a long-term client of mine to fill a position which requires just that – a London based (or at least commutable for 2/3 days of the week) Structural engineer of circa 4-7’ years’ experience to come on board and help bolster their temporary structures division, allowing them to become a specialist within what’s quite a cool niche.

In this house, you’ll be exposed to a very wide range of projects during your time here BUT you will be designated to the temporary structures division for at least 6 months of the year, whilst the festival & events season is really going pop.

You’ll find yourself working on the staging for world famous music festivals & staging for artists world tours, to demountable arenas for the Olympics & demountable venues for the likes of Louis Vuitton to hold events.

Everything here is just a bit hip… hop.

For this to appeal to you, you’ll be someone who appreciates unique engineering solutions, as well being someone who couldn’t think of anything worse than being stuck on one gigantic project for 6+ months straight.

That’s not for you, you like change & you like fast-moving programmes where the end result can be appreciated sooner rather than later, and you thrive working within a somewhat reactive setting where that initiative of yours can be put to good use, allowing you to take charge & solve any problems.

You’ll also be somebody who likes putting your communication skills to good use, building close relationships with clients & stakeholders, as well as design teams – this is crucial, since you’ll be taking ownership of projects.

But don’t worry, we won’t ask you to rap.

For other months of the year, when the temporary structures scene isn’t bustling quite so much, you’ll find yourself having to turn your hand to more conventional structures ranging from bespoke private residential (grand designs like stuff), community centres, grade I listed cathedrals, schools & much more.

But again, nothing these guys do is ‘standard’ in terms of its aesthetic or the design – they like working with creative architects, on unique projects, with a very real focus on sustainability & often on projects which have a solid case from a social/community perspective.

If this sounds like a company & position which could be of interest to you, and which could be your drum & your bass, give me a shout.

Ba-dum-tish.
